  Hawaii Women's Journal Launch Party...
  Submission Guidelines: The Hawaii Women's Journal is a bimonthly online news and literary magazine. We are a project of the Safe Zone Foundation (501c3), and currently no staff or contributors are compensated for their work. All efforts are voluntary labors of love, although we hope to change this in the future. Submitting excellent writing will help us in this endeavor, as will doing so with a positive, professional attitude. We are a new publication and are deeply appreciative of the enthusiasm from all our volunteers—editors and contributors alike. Acceptances are rolling; however, here are the deadlines for consideration in upcoming issues: May/June 2010 March 19, 2010 July/August 2010 May 14, 2010 September/October 2010July 16, 2010 November/December 2010September 17, 2010 January/February 2011November 19, 2010 Submissions are accepted for unspecified issues to give contributors time for necessary revision and to develop a cohesive aesthetic to each issue.   Digital Story: Mayumi J. Age 12...
  Middle school students in DAVAs Job Training in the Arts and Computer Art Lab worked with guest artist Daniel Weinshenker of the Center for Digital Storytelling in Denver. This summer, students had the unique opportunity to create their digital stories from their digital photo essays developed with guest artist Josh Schachter from Tucson, Arizona. While the origin of each photography project was in students views of their community, many of the digital stories delved further into the students personal lives. After editing their collection of photographs, students began the digital story process by fine-tuning their creative writing skills to develop a script that best communicated their personal stories. They each narrated their own story and added digital photographs to create their own mini-movies. In a culture where youth are constantly bombarded with messages from television, music, and movies, DAVA youth seized the opportunity to self-produce their own media and broadcast their unique voices and experiences.
